History
In the late 1950's, a group of believers began meeting in a house on Michigan Street with a vision to start a Baptist Church in Caseville. In 1959, they incorporated as a church, acquired some property on Prospect Street and began construction on the basement of what is now the main auditorium of Calvary Baptist Church. The church met in the basement until the upstairs was finished in the late 1960's.
30 years later, in 1989, a youth pastor named Mike Goforth decided to revisit the Thumb, a place where he had come to fish with his dad as a Junior High boy. It was during this visit that Mike felt God's calling to go to Caseville and start a Baptist church, not knowing that one already existed on Prospect Street. Through a series of doors that only God could have opened, Mike and his family moved to Caseville in August of 1994. The following year he was voted in as the Pastor.
In the past 20 years of ministry, God has been at work in Caseville! In 2002, the church was able to purchase what we now call the Fellowship Hall. This building has been newly renovated and is now devoted to our children and teen ministry on Wednesday nights as well as for special banquets and fellowships.
In 2012, the church began Phase 1 of our Building Project - a new, centralized foyer and entrance into the auditorium. Phase 2 will include new restrooms, an upstairs nursery, and additional classrooms.
In 2014, the church began a satellite ministry in Port Austin. Calvary Baptist of Port Austin now meets every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
